Dubai Central Laboratory has introduced a food testing service to verify nutritional declarations on packaged food, with an A-to-E classification reported as part of the initiative to improve the reliability of on-pack information. It uses laboratory analysis to check whether the nutritional values printed on packaging correspond with the contents of the product.
Manufacturers and suppliers can use the service to validate label data before products enter the market or after they are on sale. The assessment is intended to support accurate declarations and compliance with relevant requirements.
The nutritional information covered includes sugar, fat, calories, protein, carbohydrates, fibre and sodium. Laboratory testing compares these declared values with the product’s nutritional contents, providing businesses with a means of checking the information presented to consumers. The grades are presented as an additional reference alongside the nutritional declarations supplied on packaging.
Companies, manufacturers and suppliers can submit food products for nutritional assessment through the service. The initiative aims to strengthen confidence in product information by supporting declarations with laboratory verification.
For consumers, the service is intended to make nutritional information easier to understand and compare when selecting packaged foods. Reliable declarations provide a basis for evaluating products against dietary needs, including monitoring sugar, fat, calorie and protein intake.
The launch extends Dubai Central Laboratory’s work in food quality assurance and consumer awareness. By linking product analysis with packaging declarations, the service supports transparency across the supply chain and the reliability of information available to shoppers.
